Melbourne Wellness Getaway
Posted on: November 10, 2016, by AMYLEEACTIVEShare:
Mornington Peninsula combines the best of Europe’s coastal living with traditional Aussie charm – and being only an hour away from Melbourne, provides a convenient but quintessential escape from the hustle of the world’s most liveable city.
The region is home to wall-to-wall wineries, busy bayside villages and picturesque walks along the coastline. It’s also home to one of Australia’s biggest tourist attractions, Peninsula Hot Springs, the very first natural hot springs in Victoria.
I’ve been lucky enough to have experienced the award-winning coastal oasis many times, but never have I been so excited to have the opportunity to return and attend the media launch of The Wellness Calendar, a seasonal program of activities designed to elevate your health and fitness.
The morning began in their Royal Moroccan Tent, where a nutritious breakfast and an array of organic teas were waiting to be enjoyed (or inhaled, in my case).
We were then fuelled and ready for a beautiful vinyasa flow in nature.
Feeling zen, we then returned to the tent to meet the GM of the Peninsula Hot Springs and listen to Theme Rains, founder of Synthesis Organics, a regional range of skincare full of pure organic botanicals and minerals that are used in the Hot Spring’s treatments to nourish our skin without compromising our health or the environment.
It was eye-opening to learn from Theme that we put over 2 kilograms of products onto our skin each year! Chemicals and toxins are so prevalent in mainstream skincare, and our skin, being the largest organ, absorbs it all like a sponge. We were to be treated to an organic facial and massage later in the day; but first – bathing time!
Endless benefits of thermal mineral bathing include the strengthening of bones, elimination of body toxins and promotion of healthy skin. It’s also incredibly relaxing for the mind, body and soul. We were first taken on a floating meditation workshop, followed by a Hamam Spa ritual – if you’ve never had one of these, you’ve never truly been clean…
Of course all the pampering had us craving a nourishing, wholefoods lunch – so we headed to the Spa Dreaming Cafe to have a deliciously healthy 5-course lunch with the incredibly inspiring Stephie Prem, former Winter Olympian and Peninsula Hot Springs ambassador.
Read more here about Steph’s uplifting road to recovery following her horrific Winter Olympics accident and her turn-around to a holistic approach to life. She now runs an incredible luxe fitness studio, Studio PP, famed for their #PPmethod style of training; it’s all about function, lifestyle and balance. I highly recommend you check it out for a feel-good sweat sesh if you’re ever in the area.
Feeling completely nourished and blissed out, my wellness travel bud, Sandie from fitness blog The Fitness Foot Fiend and I then checked in to our sleek studio apartment, Aquabelle Apartments, perched conveniently above Rye’s main strip. One of the things that sets this gorgeous little abode apart is it’s close proximity to some of the Peninsula’s best cafes, restaurants, boutiques – and the famed Rye beach! There’s a sunny terrace with alfresco dining overlooking the water.
A few steps away from Aquabelle is one of my favourite places to drop by and pick up a coffee and few European delicacies, Montino Deli. You’ll discover all kinds of exotic goodies for your grazing platter like we did – don’t worry, that’s kombucha in those champagne glasses 😉 (still stubbornly sticking to the ‘wellness getaway’ theme!)
We then headed to Manhattan in Mornington– which is definitely king of Italian food in Mornington! The family owned restaurant is just off the bustling Main St, specializing in traditional and modern Italian cuisine.
We feasted on a platter, vino and the most INCREDIBLE home made pasta. Balanced with some fresh salads of course! Hehe.
The next morning, Sandie and I put those excess carbs to good use and did a HIIT bodyweight workout on the beach – love staying practically on the shore of the beach.
We saved one of the best for last, top Dromana cafe – Laneway Espresso – Instagrammers this one’s for you, with it’s rustic, quirky interior, perfectly poached eggs and golden waffles…so much yum! Definitely worth venturing 45 minutes out of Melbourne for.
Check out my vlog on this Mornington Peninsula getaway below; going through how I keep fit and prepare for a weekend of indulgence.
